HUNTINGDON COUNTY, Pa. —

Four people were injured when a sport utility vehicle crashed through a restaurant as customers dined.

Officials with Huntingdon County 911 said the SUV essentially went through Doans Bones Barbecue in Jackson Township around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday.

One employee and three patrons were injured, state police said. Two victims were airlifted by medical helicopter to Altoona Regional, and the other two victims were transported via ambulance to Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Just before noon on Wednesday, 6 News confirmed that two victims had been released from the hospital. Officials said one of the victims who was released from the hospital is a female employee who was pinned by the SUV and suffered leg injuries. The other victims remained hospitalized at that time.

The restaurant, located at the intersection of Route 26 and Whipple Dam Road, is at the entrance to Whipple Dam State Park.

Pennsylvania State Police in Huntingdon County are investigating the crash. Officials with state police said a 17-year-old Bellefonte girl was driving a 2003 Pontiac Aztec and attempted to turn left on Route 26 south to Whipple Dam Road. When she did, she turned directly in the path of a 2004 Ford Expedition driven by a 48-year-old Tyrone man.

The driver of the Expedition was traveling north and swerved to avoid the Pontiac. State police said he was not able to stop and drove into the restaurant.

Neither driver was injured.

Despite the huge hole left in the building, the restaurant's owners said they plan to reopen for takeout and outdoor dining this weekend.

Ambulance crews from Huntingdon, Centre and Mifflin counties went to the scene, along with several area fire rescue units.
