War Memorial Under Investigation, Promoters Say Arena Owes Them Money

The Cambria County district attorney said his office received two separate complaints prior to a surprise raid Wednesday at the county's War Memorial Arena.

The complaints stemmed from the promoters of a mixed martial arts show and the Fists Of Thunder boxing match. Both events were held at the arena in May.

District Attorney Pat Kiniry said state police are investigating the case. Wednesday, troopers gathered box loads of records and paperwork from the arena after serving a sealed search warrant.

Jack Steeves, chairman of the authority board, said although the promoters claim the arena owes them money, the promoters signed off on accounting documents stating they were satisfied with the payout.

Kiniry said no charges have been filed and no other information will be released until troopers and prosecutors review all of the evidence. He said the process could take weeks.
