Water Buffalos Arrive In Dry Somerset County Town

Residents in the water-starved community of Blough in Somerset County received some much needed relief on Friday.

Water buffalos arrived around 11 a.m., thanks to neighboring Conemaugh Township, which supplied 1,400 gallons of water to Blough.

The Conemaugh Water Commission will check the water daily and voted to supply a week's worth of water to Blough for free. If Blough commissions say they need more, they will have to purchase it from Conemaugh.

Conemaugh Water Operator Patrick Mulcahy said the supply will alleviate residents'' water woes.

"1,400 gallons isn't a lot when you think of the whole system they could use, but for the small community of Blough, it will definitely help," Mulcahy said.

There have been talks of extending water pipes from Conemaugh to Blough for more than two years. The funding application has been placed, but there is no word on when a decision might be made.
