West End Residents Take Action

Johnstown —

A video was made by neighbors in the West End. They're upset by, what they say, are traffic dangers on Route 56. They made the video showing how trucks drive through and how dangerous they think it is.

Trish Fyock explains a scary morning, "I was walking on this side toward this way to my home and the truck just came over right on the curb up on the side where I was walking and of course my back was towards him. I didn't expect it to happen and he came very close. About this close to me."

Trish is so frightened by it, it sparks her husband Scott to make the video. They want the West End to get its fair share from Penndot. Crossing the street is even difficult. On the other side of the street, another example of what neighbors here see.

Scott Fyock, who made the video, watches a truck make a wide turn on the curve stopping oncoming traffic. He tells Channel 6 News, "He's gotta do that. See what happens. And if he does try to stay in his own lane his rear wheels are gonna go up over that curb. There's no way around it."

As we film another truck goes up on the curb next to us. This avoids other traffic coming through.

The Fyocks sent their video to Mayor Don Zucco who saw it Monday. He thinks it proves his point: that Route 56 is dangerous for the West End neighborhood. The mayor was only able to speak with us over the phone Wednesday.

Mayor Zucco says, "I'm having it copied and I'm having it sent to every member of the state transportation commission. And I'm having it copied for every member who attended my transportation crisis summit."

Mayor Zucco hopes the Fyocks video will play well with lawmakers in Harrisburg.
