Westmont Hilltop Middle School Floods Due To Faulty Sprinkler

WESTMONT, Pa. —

Fire crews were dispatched to a fire Friday night at Westmont Hilltop Middle School, but it turned out there wasn't a fire.

Officials said a faulty sprinkler started spraying thousands of gallons of water from a third-floor classroom.

The water leaked through the ceiling tiles into the second floor and onto the first.

Crews were on scene in minutes, got the water to stop and began sweeping out water.

Mihalko's General Contracting was called in with in an hour of the call from administrators and spread dozens of fans all over the school.

There was damage inside, but not enough to delay classes.

School officials said school will resume on Monday as well as events planned for Monday night.

Officials weren't sure what happened to the sprinkler system, but the company who installed is checking out the problem Saturday.

An estimated amount of damage hasn't been released.
