Winter storm hit central PA

By WJAC Web Staff

Winter storm warnings are issued for the entire 6 News viewing area.

Meteorologists say a strong area of low pressure will usher in snow, sleet, and freezing rain to the area.  Some of the precipitation will be heavy at times.

Severe Weather Team 6 meteorologist Josh Fosbrink said all 10 counties, Cambria, Somerset, Blair, Bedford, Huntingdon, Clearfield, Centre, Jefferson, Elk and Cameron are included in the warning that continues through Thursday morning.

Counties south of Interstate 80 may see some ice in addition to snow, Fosbrink said.  Snow accumulations could range from 3 to 8 inches.  Ice could accumulate up to a quarter inch.

Meanwhile, Fosbrink said counties north of I-80 will see mostly a snow event, with 8-12 inches possible in the northern mountains.

The heavier snow falls are expected to begin mid-day on Wednesday.

Stay tuned to 6 News for updates on the winter storm.
