Woman receives anonymous card as a result of tragedy

By Melanie Gillespie

BLAIR COUNTY, Pa. —

Random acts of kindness take place all over the world.

We hear stories from Secret Santa to paying off strangers’ Christmas lay away, but in our area, a generous act was discovered of a different kind inspired by the tragedy in Connecticut.

6News spoke to a woman Sunday who had an unexpected card placed on her windshield when leaving the mall.

A card that brought tears to her eyes.

"So I got out of the car and opened it up and it’s a Christmas card with a ten dollar bill in it and it says: How do you fight evil in this world. You fight it with food. This act of kindness is in memory of a child who lost his/her life yesterday. Make the world a better place.do good and Merry Christmas," Rose Pratt said.

The card was anonymous and in remembrance of the young victims and the families of the Newtown shootings in Connecticut.

Pratt said she sat in her car at the Boscov’s parking lot in Altoona and cried.

She even looked around to find the mystery person who left this for her, but no one came forward.

"So, I have no idea who this is from, but I want them to know that it warmed my heart so much that I am on a quest now to pay it forward,” Pratt said.

She said she’s going to add to it and pay it forward for a child in need.

She hopes her story serves as inspiration, to not only remember the victims in Newtown, but to spread good throughout the world.

"I also want to tell them that I shared it with a friend this morning at church... And that she loved the idea so much that she is going to do it too, I mean it's just incredible,” Pratt said.

She said she may even frame the card and put it on her wall to remember it’s acts of kindness like this one that gives the reason for the season.

"I want to tell them that this is the best Christmas present of all time,” she said.

And only has one wish this Christmas.

"If there is enough good deeds done towards everybody, family, friends, strangers, whatever, that we won’t have to deal with any shootings in the schools and the loss of our children or anybody,” Pratt said.
