Women's Razor Advice

With summer coming, many women will want to show a little leg. That means starting with a clean and close shave and Good Housekeeping knows which razors make the cut...without making cuts.

"We evaluated the volunteer's legs before shaving and after for hair coverage, overall smoothness of the leg hair, around the contours of the ankle area, which is hardest for the razors to get," says Nicole Larsen, chemist, Good Housekeeping Institute. "We also looked for smoothness and overall texture."

Gillette's Fusion impressed the testers, who found it very easy to use. "Gillette Fusion has five blades, gave a closer shave and volunteers liked how it followed the contours of their legs and left no stubble," says Larsen.

The new Gillette Venus Breeze scored points because of its built-in shave gel bar. "Consumers loved the fact that they didn't need to use additional moisturizing shaving gel because this product has it built right in," says Larsen. Nearly all of the testers of the Gillette Venus Breeze agreed the built-in shaving gel provided more than enough suds to do the job.

And one more piece of advice. Good Housekeeping says shave at the end of the shower. "The best time to shave your legs is after they've been wet for a while, typically towards the end of your shower," says Larsen. "The hair is more pliable and can stretch beyond the surface of your skin, giving the razor more to grab onto."
