Cambria County —
It's cools off slightly outside at night. And by slightly, we mean it's still warm and sticky, just not as much. When you drive around the area you almost feel sorry for those stuck working in this heat, like Jim Miranda. He cuts trees all day.
He tells Channel 6 News, "Everything you do is dirty. You're breathing the hot dust and saw dust all day. It's like a blow torch on you sometimes."
It can spark more than sweat for police officers. Calls get more heated with the heat. Chief Arthur Boring of the Ferndale Police Department says, "When you have incidents a lot of time they're more exaggerated than they would be in regular weather."
No matter what the temperature, construction worker Karl Barney is used to it. He tells Channel 6 News, "It ain't as hot today as it was [Monday]."
Even for Channel 6 News crews the heat is intense. In between stories we try to catch a break. We never leave the station without water.
Jim Miranda has his. "[I] drink a lot of water, juice, take a break. Today we have a little breeze which helps out."
Chief Boring says, "The air conditioning is on all the time in the car. But when we have to be out for anything we just have to watch out what we're doing."
The emergency room is filling up with heat related problems. Complaints of exhaustion, fever, fatigue and body aches. Dr. Daniel Wehner is the Director of Emergency at Memorial Medical Center.
He tells Channel 6 News, "If you ignore those symptoms and stay out in the heat, don't drink fluids, then the symptoms can very rapidly come back on and can increase in intensity to the point where you may need to seek medical attention."
If you're out and you get tired with body aches just try to get in the shade or air conditioning and drink plenty of water and you should be alright.
