Workshop Focuses on Environmental Impacts of Marcellus Shale

By Stef Davis

STATE COLLEGE, Pa

Outdoor enthusiasts from all across our region gathering in State College Saturday to learn more about protecting our environment.

Carl reed, Cresson, says, "I’m interested in preserving the things I love and enjoy about the outdoors. I realize things are changing. I don't necessarily want things to stay the same, but Iwant things to be good for people."

That's exactly what this workshop, put on by Trout Unlimited, is all about--learning how to recognize and monitor changes to the environment, especially water. The main focus--impacts of the Marcellus Shale industry that's growing here in Central and West-Central Pennsylvania.

Mitchell Blake, workshop instructor, says, "It’s important for citizens and community organizations to get out and monitor streams to protect water quality for future generations."

Getting educated is the first small step that can make a big difference.

Judy Sittler, Spring Creek Trout Unlimited, says, “We need to support anything that will support our stream systems across the state and the country."
