WJAC-TV Employment Opportunities: Cox Television Internship Program

The Cox Broadcasting Washington Bureau is looking for energetic, experienced and self-motivated college or graduate students for fall, spring and summer internships. We want people who are training for broadcast journalism careers as producers, reporters, photographers or editors.

As a Cox intern, we expect you to help our reporters and producers by researching story ideas, setting up and conducting interviews on Capitol Hill, and pulling sound bites. You will support the newsroom by learning our stations and lawmakers, writing copy, and answering phone calls.

We help you produce a resume tape that includes a stand-up montage and at least three packages. To do this, we give you access to our editing equipment, video and interviews. You’ll learn how to edit and you’ll work with our photographers to shoot your stand-ups. Our reporters and producers will work with you on writing, interviewing and delivery. If you are interested in television news production (shooting, editing, audio, lighting) you can also work with our photographers and editors on these skills.

The Cox bureau is located on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC. We turn stories for our 10 local news stations across the country. Our internship is unpaid and you must provide proof of college/graduate school credit to be considered. We require interns to work at least two days and priority is given to those available additional days. To apply, email Catherine Reynolds at catherine.reynolds@coxtv.com and attach your resume and cover letter. Tell us about your experience in television news and what part of the business interests you most. Also, include the days you are available to work and when you would begin/end your internship. Finally, include the name of your university, the professor who will be giving you credit for the internship and a phone number where you can be reached.

Application deadlines:

Fall - August 1

Spring - December 1

Summer - April 1
