Renegades earn AAABA regular season championship

Playoffs begin Friday, July 20

By Matt Maisel

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

Berkley Hills Renegades won their first Johnstown AAABA regular season title in franchise history on Wednesday.

By defeating Delweld 5-3 at Point Stadium, they also earned a berth in the AAABA national tournament for the first time in their six-year history. The AAABA Tournament begins Monday, Aug. 6.

The Renegades (25-11) will take the top-seed into the Johnstown AAABA playoffs which begin Monday at Point Stadium. They will face 4th-place finisher Laurel Auto Group (14-22) at 5:30 p.m. Friday. Delweld (23-13), which earned 2nd place, will face 3rd place Martella's Pharmacy (23-13) at 8:30 p.m. at the Point.

Martella's is the defending tournament champion. Either they, Delweld, or both teams have represented Johnstown in the AAABA Tournament each of the last five years. However, with Renegades winning the regular season title, that assures at least one of Delweld or Martella's will not qualify for the national event.

The winner of the upcoming playoffs will earn Johnstown's second spot in the AAABA Tournament. Should Berkley Hills Renegades win, the playoffs' runner-up will clinch the second berth.
