Bucs Finally Beat Astros

(Pittsburgh-AP) -- Jeff D'Amico threw seven shutout innings and Kenny Lofton belted a two-run homer as Pittsburgh finally beat Houston 3-to-2. D'Amico gave up four hits and tied his career high with ten strikeouts. He retired 14 of 15 hitters after getting into a bases-loaded jam in the third. D'Amico improved to 3-and-4 with help from Mike Williams' ninth save.

Lofton's third homer of the season gave the Pirates a 2-to-0 lead. Jack Wilson added an R-B-I single off Wade Miller, who's 1-and-5 after giving up seven hits in five and a-third. The Pirates had dropped ten straight to the Astros dating back to last season. Pittsburgh had lost ten of eleven overall before ending Houston's three-game winning streak. Jeff Kent hit a two-run homer off Brian Boehringer in the eighth.
