Bucs Lose Home Opener

(Milwaukee-AP) -- Milwaukee finally has its first win of the season after Glendon Rusch silenced the Pirates in a 5-to-3 victory at Pittsburgh. Rusch fired a one-hitter and struck out seven over seven innings. He ended a personal four-game losing streak while improving to 1-and-6 lifetime versus the Pirates.

Scott Podsednik had two R-B-I's as the Brewers avoided the first 0-and-7 start in team history. It's also the first win for new manager Ned Yost. Things got interesting when Jason Kendall hit a three-run homer off Luis Vizcaino in the eighth inning. But Mike DeJean pitched the ninth for his first save.

Kip Wells was wild while falling to 0-and-1. Wells gave up just one earned run and two hits but walked seven over four-plus innings.
