Charlie McClain Wins Street Stock Special at Roaring Knob

MARKLEYSBURG, PA (July 28) – The GNH Trucking Street Stock 25-lap Special highlighted Fan Appreciation Night at Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex on Saturday night. Scoring the big win, his career first, was Mt. Braddock’s Charlie McClain. Other winners on GNH Trucking Night were Gary Dalton (Curt’s Family Restaurant Super Late Models), Louie Krushansky (Brooks Auto Group Modifieds), Don Miller (Ft. Necessity Garage Chargers) and Ricky Meglaye (Garry’s Auto Sales Late Models).

Twenty Street Stocks lined up for their longest race of the year, 25 laps, with Charlie McClain and Mitch Wattelet drawing the front row. McClain immediately took command in his #05 Ford Thunderbird, but the eventual career first victory was well earned as McClain withstood constant pressure from Sam King, also driving a Thunderbird, the entire distance. The tension mounted as late race cautions tightened the field and kept King on his bumper. As they raced for the checker, McClain held him off to score the big win. King took runner up honors with Bob Nelson third, Todd Dennis fourth and Chris Lucy nabbed fifth. Sixth thru tenth were Bo Karwatske, Mitch Wattelet, Jim Byers, Matt Rishel and Matt Franks. Mike Duritsky and Sam King were the heat race winners.

Tim Senic looked like he was on his way to his first win in the 25-lap Curt’s Family Restaurant Super Late Models, but Morgantown’s Gary Dalton, who had started tenth, had other ideas. After a lap 16 restart closed up the field, the crafty Dalton made his move on the next circuit passing Senic, and he put it on cruise control for the final 8 laps to secure his fifth feature win this year at the Knob. Senic settled for second over Jeff Ferguson, Billy Holbert (from 12th) and Bob Gordon. Nolan Dalton, Greg Gellner, Doug Stine, John Over and Larry Baker completed the top ten. Senic and Dalton took heat wins for the 18-car field.

Young Mason Zeigler grabbed the lead at the start of the 12-lap Ft. Necessity Garage Charger feature. Zeigler led the first two laps before Farmington’s Don Miller made his move and took the lead on lap three. Zeigler stayed with Miller and challenged him throughout, but Miller held firm and came home first at the finish to collect his second win of the season. Zeigler earned a fine second place finish with Willie Porter third, Mark Peck fourth and Bob Miller (from 12th) rounded out the top five. Filling out the top ten were Shane Wheeler, Jr., Jason Humberson, Brad Jenkins, John Matthews and Adam McCormick for the 16 cars on hand. Peck and Zeigler shared heat race wins.

The 15-lap Brooks Auto Group Modified feature had Louie Krushansky starting on the pole of the 19-car field. Krushansky took the lead at the start and battled with Phil Jeffries for the first six laps before Vic Vandergrift entered the scene. Dennis Perigo was the next driver to step up and try to overtake the determined Krushansky. However, Krushansky was not to be denied, and he hung on for his first win since opening day. Perigo held second over Vandergrift at the stripe with Rich Logan fourth and Matt Cosner fifth. Nick Cramer, Jason Ammons, Todd Daughenbaugh, Andrew Wolfe and Frank Billie were the top ten drivers. Krushasnky and Phil Jeffries each collected heat race wins.

Ricky Meglaye started fifth in the final event of the night and paced himself the distance to collect and win his third Garry’s Auto Sales Late Model feature. Meglaye passed Chuck Bloom on lap nine of the caution filled event, and it was clear sailing from there. Garry Sisson crossed the line second over Bloom, Stanley Spooner and Larry Yanero, Jr. to make up the top five. Completing the top ten were Wayne Jordan, Tom Sieger, Curt Hager, Paul Dominick, and Fred Zeigler. Zeigler and Robbie Black grabbed heat wins for the 15-car field.

On August 4, Roaring Knob will be closed for the Fayette County Fair. August 11 will be Glotfelty Tire Service Night, and the Brooks Auto Group Modifieds will be competing in an extra distance event. Along with the Modifieds will be a complete regular racing program for the Curt’s Family Restaurant Super Late Models, Garry’s Auto Sales Late Models, GNHTrucking Street Stocks and the Ft. Necessity Garage Chargers. Gates Open at 4:30 PM with Racing at 7 PM sharp.
