Hill throws no-hitter for Penn State baseball

First PSU no-hitter since 1995

By Matt Maisel

IOWA CITY, Ia. —

The thought of throwing a no-hitter had never crossed Steven Hill's mind. That was until Saturday afternoon.

Hill became the first Nittany Lion to throw a no-hitter since 1995 when he blanked Iowa on Saturday in a 2-0 win.

"I would never expect to throw a no-hitter," said Hill. "I've never done it before. There are so many non-baseball things running  through my head right now."

Hill struck out three Hawkeye batters and only walked one. He is the first Penn State pitcher to throw a no-hitter since Nate Bump dominated Duquesne 17 years ago. Hill, a junior, is the first Nittany Lion to throw a no-hitter in Big Ten play.

"When you are in the game, you don't really think about it," said head coach Robbie Wine. "For Steve Hill to go out there and do that for the team in a crucial game, it's huge."

Penn State improves to 18-20 on the season and 6-5 in Big Ten play.

Hill allowed a total of two baserunners the entire game. He threw 105 pitches, 69 of them for strikes. It is Hill's fourth consecutive win and his second complete game this season.

"It's truly amazing," Hill said, "I'm truly blessed."
