Delweld One Win Away From Finals (7/27)

JOHNSTOWN, PA —

Delweld is one win away from reaching its second straight Johnstown AAABA finals series.

The defending champion defeated GMI Renegades 4-3 on Saturday to take a two games to one lead in their best-of-5 semifinals.

League MVP Matt Staub pitched a complete game, four-hitter to lead Delweld. He did not allow a Renegades runner to reach third base between third third and eighth innings.

Delweld struck early and often, scoring three runs in the first inning of Cole Taylor. The offense was led by John Kirby, who ripped a two RBI single with the bases loaded in the first frame.

Delweld finds themselves one win away from a surprising finals series. Earlier Saturday night, Principle, the lowest seed in the four team tournament, defeated top seed Martella's 4-1 to sweep the regular season champs out of the postseason. Delweld is the third-seeded team, and goes for the series win Monday night at 7:00 at Point Stadium.
