Full night of racing plus Micros along with fireworks Saturday at Mercer

Mercer, PA… Mercer Raceway Park’s annual American Patriot Night will be held at the track again this Saturday night, July 1. A complete program of RoadRunner & Lake Road Auto Sales Sprint Cars, American Racer/Lias Tire Modifieds, Tire Express Stock Cars, Maurer’s Trading Post Strictly Stocks, and the Micro Sprints will be on the racing card. To compliment the night, a huge and spectacular fireworks display will be put on after sunset to celebrate the Independence Day holiday.

For the second straight year a free Butler County Night will admit all residents of the county into the grandstands for free general admission free. A valid driver’s license or identification card is required for adults showing a city in Butler County. All accompanying children will be admitted free as well. The promotion is presented and promoted by ZOOM Internet.

For the seventh consecutive year, all veterans of war and active servicemen will be admitted free into the grandstands with identification. In the past, around 200 veterans have enjoyed the night as a guest of Mercer Raceway Park. Also, all scouts in uniform will be granted free admission.

For the second time this season, Bob Felmlee and Rod George are tied atop the Sprint Car standings. George, who is still in search of his first win of the season, recorded his third runner-up finish after charging from the 11th starting spot and finished ahead of three-time winner Felmlee, who was been shutout of victory lane since May 6. Arnie Kent is coming off his division-leading fourth win, but inconsistency has kept him out of the title chase.

Kevin Hoffman came back from an early race spin last Saturday night to finish fifth and maintained his Modified point lead. The Franklin, Pa. driver is in search of his first track title. The story of late has been Brad Rapp and Frank Guidace. The duo have accounted for six of the last eight features including three each.

Brian Booher raced to a solid fourth place finish last week and continues to maintain his point lead in search of his second straight title for the Sandy Lake, Pa. driver. Mike Pegher, Jr. denied Andy Buckley last Saturday from becoming the division’s all-time winner since the track reopened by scoring his fourth win of the season after a thrilling side-by-side duel.

Despite finishing last, Carl Ealy of Volant, Pa. continues to hold on to his point lead in the Strictly Stocks over rookie driver Bryan Wagner. Dave Airgood, Jr. joined Wagner last Saturday night as rookie racers scoring victories this season.

The Micro Sprints will return for their season’s third of six appearances in the rescheduled show from May 13 albeit in an unsanctioned program. The 15-lap feature will still pay $350 to-win, $35 to-start. Mercer Raceway Park urges Micro Sprint racers to support this show in order to continue the ability to host Micro Sprint events in the future. Last Saturday night, George Hobaugh (Jr.) won his first ever feature at the track and became the 13th different winner in 15 races contested all-time at The Park.

Pit gates open at 3:30 p.m. and grandstands at 4:30, hot laps are at 6:15, and racing begins at 7. Adult admission is $11. Students 6-15 are $5. Children five and under are always free. The family pass, which admits mom, dad, and up to four kids, is $25. Pit passes are $22.
