JOHNSTOWN, Pa. —

Bobby Wyatt captured the 59th Sunnehanna Amateur golf championship Sunday, taking charge of the tournament on the back nine holes at Sunnehanna Country Club in Johnstown.

Wyatt, a 20-year old who just finished his sophomore year at the University of Alabama, birdied the 10th, 11th, and 15th holes on Sunday. Wyatt finished the tournament 9-under par.

Mike Miller of Brewster, N.Y. finished in second place at 7-under par, while a three-way tie for third place featured Wyatt's Alabama teammate Justin Thomas, as well as Sebastian Vasquez of Mexico City, and Georgia Bulldogs standout Nick Reach. All three finished at 6-under par.

Wyatt entered the day in a tie for first with Miller and Vasquez at -7. For most of the front nine, Vasquez held a one-shot lead on Wyatt who bogeyed the 5th and 6th holes.

On Saturday, Wyatt struggled on the back nine at Sunnehanna, but Sunday, he shined. Wyatt made the turn with birdies at the par 3 10th hole, and par 5 11th hole to give him a two shot lead over Miller, Vasquez, and Thomas, who was playing in the group ahead. After making par the next three holes, Wyatt chipped his third shot on the par 5 15th hole to within three feet of the cup. He tapped in for birdie to take a 3-shot lead.

Wyatt made par on the last three holes while Miller birdied 18 to finish alone in second place.

For Wyatt, who shot an unofficial 57 at his home course in Mobile, Ala., this was his first career amateur tournament win.
