Roberts, Rizzo Earn Third Gold At PIAA Wrestling

District 5, 6, and 9 wrestlers earn 30 medals at state meet in Hershey

HERSHEY, Pa. —

North Star senior Nick Roberts and Richland senior John Rizzo stamped impressive legacies Saturday, each winning their third state title at the PIAA Individual Wrestling Championships.

Roberts defeated Zeke Moisey of Bethlehem Catholic to win the title at 120 pounds. Rizzo dominated Eric Laytos of Lackawanna Trail 12-3 to win the 220 pound bracket. Rizzo's previous two titles were in the 285 pound division.

Juniata's Zach Beitz also won a state title at 145 pounds.

Forest Hills junior Cody Law lost in the 160 pound final to Francis Meizia of Bentworth.

In Class AAA, Central Mountain's Brian Brill (160) and Westmont's Josh Duplin (285) lost in their championship bouts as well.

All told, it was an incredibly productive weekend for this region. Wrestlers from Districts 5, 6, and 9 accounted for 30 total medals between the two classes. Placewinners and champions are listed below.
