Jeff Miller wins second at the Valley

Jeff Miller, whose last race at Thunder Valley ended with a wild crash, returned to Victory Lane in Saturday night action at the track. Miller's win came in the 25 lap Late Model event. Later, rookie John Saylor emerged with his first career Limited Late Model win in that 20 lapper. Ashley Barrett came from dead last to win the Street Stock event. Tom Warren again won the Pure Stock event before Dave Day swept the 4 cylinder races.

Miller, after a season of rough luck at Thunder Valley, qualified for an up front starting spot in the feature. He got by John Britsky at the start and took the lead. Through the early laps he stretched out a lead over the field as Britsky held off a fast closing DJ Myers and Scott Rhodes. A late race yellow for a spinning Britsky closed up the field but Miller scampered away for the win. Rhodes and Myers traded the runer up spot several times before Myers secured it for good on lap 20. Rhodes hung on for third ahead of a fast closing Scott Brode and Rick Singleton. Dave Blazavich, Gary Lyle, Ben Satterlee, Matt Gaston and Dave Padula completed the fast top ten. Miller and Britsky won the heats.

Donnie Hedge led the first lap of the Limited event. John Saylor charged by on lap two and held off the furious charges of Doug Hardy for several laps. Hardy got by on lap 10 and appeared to be on his way to an easy win as Saylor held off first Steve Bard and the n Hedge for second. Hardy drew to a huge lead but second was the place to be, as Hardy's car lost oil pressure on lap 17 and he drifted into the infield.

A surprised but happy Saylor shot by and held off Hedge for the last two laps for his first ever Limited win. Dan Lee had his best run of the season at third, ahead of Yvette Hahn, Shawn McGarvey, Randy Smithley, Ted Gallaher, Tim Snare, Jake Griffith and Nathan Lasalle. Saylor began his evening by winning his heat. Hedge won the other.

Ashley Barrett had been absent from Thunder Valley for several weeks but made a big splash in Street Stock action. He started dead last in the 18 car field and came through for the dramatic first TV win of 2006. Jonathan Hayman jumped around Joey Pluta to lead the first lap. He held off a four car chase pack for five laps until he spun in front of the field, collecting both Dave Korlewitz and Jason Breegle. At that point eighth starting Pat McDonough assumed the lead and appeared off to his third win of the season with Matt Hayman in pursuit. When McDonough misplayed a lapped car, Barrett made a daring move and swept by for the lead. Hayman also got by McDonough and held on for second at the end. Greg Cornell finished a close fourth, followed by John Swartzwelder, who had started in the last row with Barrett, Hayman who rallied from his spin, Kristin Ettling, John Pahulik, Doug Barclay and Dennis Collins. Korlewitz and McDonough won the heats.

Tom Warren continued his hot streak in Pure Stock action with his sixth win of the season. He got by early leader Don Lybarger on lap 8 and then held off a late run by Greg Custer. Lybarger held on for third ahead of Kory Shiley and Jeff Benson. Warren and Charlie Field won the heats.

Dave Day Jr in only his third start ran off to win his first ever 4 Cylinder win in the first event for the class.. He beat Rob Prinkley, Chris Booher and Karl Bailey. In the nightcap, Day liked the feeling so much that he came from dead last in the 16 car field to do it again, beating Bailey, Booher, Cindy Shaulis and Prinkley.
