Ohio gone, Pennsylvania to play Maryland in Big 33

Five-year agreement begins June, 2013

HARRISBURG, PA —

O-H-I-No more from the Buckeye State.

The Big 33 Classic high school football all-star game played each year in Hershey will no longer feature the top players from Pennsylvania facing Ohio all-stars.

Instead, the Big 33 Scholarship Foundation announced Wednesday, Pennsylvania will play Maryland beginning in Saturday, June 15, 2013. The agreement is part of a five-year contract.

Big 33 Executive Director Dave Trimbur considers it an upgrade, telling 6 Sports on Wednesday the growing number of Division 1 football players from Maryland, coupled with the proximity of the state to Hershey, helped in the decision to make the change.

Maryland had 76 Division 1 football players in 2012.

Pennsylvania has played Ohio every year in the Big 33 Classic since 1993. The two sides also played from 1972 to 1976. Maryland was Pennsylvania's foe from 1983-1992.

Ohio currently has a 4-game winning streak over the Pennsylvania All-Stars, but Trimbur said that had no bearing in the decision to change opponents. The two sides had split their previous 20 meetings, ten games a piece.

There has never been a Super Bowl played without a Big 33 alumnus on one of the two team's rosters, according to the Big 33.
