Penn State Comeback Gives Paterno Historic Win

Nittany Lions Top Illinois 10-7

By Matt Maisel

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. —

For nearly 60 minutes of Penn State's game Saturday against Illinois, neither quarterback Matt McGloin nor Rob Bolden appeared to show the ability to lead the Nittany Lions to a win.

McGloin seized his final opportunity, however.

The redshirt junior quarterback from Scranton led Penn State on an 11-play, 80-yard drive, capped off by a Silas Redd 3-yard touchdown to give the Nittany Lions a 10-7 lead with 1:08 to play.

The win was Joe Paterno's 409th of his career, breaking Eddie Robinson's record for most wins by a Division 1 coach.

Penn State (8-1, 5-0 Big Ten) overcame three turnovers and Derek Dimke's 42-yard field goal attempt which hit off the upright as time expired.

Silas Redd had a career-high 30 carries and ran for 137 yards.
