Pirates Pound Twins

Ramirez, Sanders Homer

(Bradenton, Florida-AP) -- Reggie Sanders homered, drew a bases-loaded walk and drove in three runs in his first exhibition game with Pittsburgh as the Pirates pounded out 16 hits and routed a Minnesota Twins split squad 14-to-3.

Sanders, who joined the Pirates in Florida last week, hit a long two-run homer in a five-run fifth inning that gave the Pirates a 9-to-1 lead. The shot easily cleared the left-field fence and landed on the roof of the Bradenton Boys and Girls Club.

Aramis Ramirez and Mike Gulan also homered for Pittsburgh. Ramirez also had three R-B-Is while Jason Kendall, Ramirez, Randall Simon and Carlos Rivera had two hits each. The Pirates held the Twins, whose only regular player in the

lineup was right fielder Mike Cuddyer, to three hits.
