Pirates Trade Mike Williams To Phillies

(Pittsburgh-AP) -- The Pittsburgh Pirates have traded All-Star reliever Mike Williams back to the Phillies in a move that Philadelphia hopes will boost the bullpen for the stretch run.

Williams says he expected to be dealt. He was half-dressed for a game today when he got notice of the deal, which sends minor league prospect Frank Brooks, a left-hander, to the Pirates.

Williams made the National League All-Star team this year despite an E-R-A over six. He says trades are coming for the Pirates and he's not going to be the only one.

The Pirates had traded Williams to Houston in July of 2001, then re-signed him after that season, and he went on to convert 46 of 50 save opportunities last season.
