Singleton in Thunder Valley sweep

Rick Singleton turned around a hard luck season marked be broken parts and bent sheet metal by walking off with a Late Model feature win at Thunder Valley Saturday night. Then, Singleton returned to make history as he also won the Limited event, becomming the first driver in track history to win in two different divisions in two different cars on the same night. Jamey Swank continued his Semi Late dominance with a win in that 40 lap special while defending track champ Chris Booher took a narrow win in 4 Cylinder action.

The Late Model event started with a bang as several mid pack cars piled up at the start. In the crash, Dan Swartzlander ended up on top of Tom Decker Sr in turn one, necessitating a red flag delay. On the second attempt, Darrel Dick took off from the field with the early lead. It took Singleton several laps to arrive in second place and he instantly began to work on the leader. He whipped by on lap 7 and led to the finish. Chad McClellan also got by Dick one lap later but Singleton was up to that challenge and held on.

McClellan found himself in a battle of his own as Scott Rhodes and Steve Everhart arrived from the pack and wrestled for that spot as Singleton got away. Everhart got by McClellan for second on lap 16 and ran down Singleton as the laps wound down, looking for his second win in a row , arriving on Singleton's back bumper. A lap 23 caution for Rod Sweitzer closed the field for a 2 lap sprint to the finish but Singleton got away to score his fifth career Thunder Valley Late Model win. Everhart was second at the line, followed by McClellan, Rhodes. Shawn McGarvey, Dick, Matt Gaston , Gene Kain, John Kuzemchak and Dave Bloss. Rhodes and Everhart won the heats.

Singleton jumped from Sam Barley's Late Model into his own Limited car and went 20 more laps in that feature. Rod Mock was the pole sitter and early leader. Singleton arrived on Mocks tail on lap two and challenged him heavily. He took over on lap 5 and got away from the field. Doug Glessner arrived to take second from Mock on lap 9 but couldn't reel in the fleet Singleton for the duration. At the finish it was Singleton scoring his 4th career Limited win at the track, ahead of Glessner, first time 2007 visitor Andy Fries and McClellan, who had started last in the field. Mock held on for a career best fifth place finish, followed by Adam Fulton, Travis Calhoun, Dan Lee, Scott Daniels and Randy Smith. Glessner and Singleton had won the heats.

The Semi Lates went 40 laps in their big event. The story was longer but the plot was the same as 2007 Semi Late superstar Jamey Swank went to the front and stretched out the field for the win. It was Swank's 7th Semi Late win of the season.

Dave Whetstone was the early leader as it took Swank five laps to get through the field. Swank took over at that point and led the distance. Greg Cornell emerged from a wild battle to take second on lap 13 as Whetstone held off a 4 car traffic jam battle. When Cornell retired on lap 25, it was a battle for second and Whetstone held on to score his career best Thunder Valley Semi Late finish. Greg Hainsey was third ahead of Dave Korlewitz, Willy Ling, Jonathan Hayman, Patrick McDonough, Brian Lowery, Kristen Etling and Dennis Collins. Swank and Lowery won the heats. The Semi Late race was exceptionally clean as they went the distance under green except for a lap 28 incident when McDonough stopped on the track.

Defending track champion Chris Booher had his way with the 4 cylinder field but had to hold on for a nail biter at the end. Booher took the lead at the start but Jim Tunstall made a late race charge. He got under Booher on the last lap and they finished the event side by side at the line. Booher won by two feet, ahead of Tunstall, Karl Bailey, Travis Vance, Dave Friend and Nathan Vinosky.
