New York —

The Steelers selected Cameron Heyward, a defensive end from Ohio State, with the 31st overall selection of the 2011 NFL Draft on Thursday in New York City.

Heyward is the son of Craig "Ironhead" Heyward, a former Pitt running back who was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in 1988.

He is the second defensive end selected by the Steelers in the first round of the NFL Draft in the last three years. Ziggy Hood was taken with the No. 32 overall pick in 2009.

Heyward, who registered 163 total tackles, 37.5 tackles for losses, and 14.5 sacks in his career at Ohio State, adds depth to an aging defensive line. Current starting defensive ends Aaron Smith and Brett Keisel are 35 and 32 years old respectively.
