The entire Allegheny region was hit hard by the latest winter storm and on Thursday residents were digging out while road crews worked around the clock.

Huntingdon County picked up an additional 15 inches of snow and officials declared a disaster emergency.

Whiteouts and snow drifts as high as 10 feet left many vehicles stranded. Blowing snow made it nearly impossible for crews to keep some roads open and officials closed roads like Route 26 in Penn Township and Route 655 in Brady Township.

The storm also paralyzed much of Bedford County, where some areas received nearly 3 feet of snow over the past week. The snow is putting much stress on buildings' roofs and some residents and municipalities were having difficulty finding places to dump the snow.

In Johnstown, a lack of manpower put crews to the test, where snow piles up to 4 feet high lined many streets. Blowing and drifting snow also made driving difficult Thursday, and city officials urged people to move parked cars so snowplows can do their jobs.

Severe Weather Team 6 said snow showers and blowing snow will continue to hamper travel overnight Thursday. A few snow showers will continue in the Laurel Highlands, but accumulations are expected to be less than 2 inches.

Another winter storm is possible early next week as low pressure moves up the East Coast, and Severe Weather Team 6 is monitoring the situation.
