Crews said their biggest challenges are drivers who speed and ongoing snow accumulation. PennDOT has priority roads it treats first, but each drier has a specific route.
So, for example, if a back state road isn't cleared, it's because Route 22, 219 or 56 aren't safe for drivers yet.
PennDOT driver Dave Connah said drivers who speed past their trucks are putting themselves and other drivers and passengers at risk.
"You've got to make sure we know you're there. Have your headlights on for sure. A lot of times, we can't see out our mirrors or anything -- it's all steamed up in here from snow flying up on the windshield and everything," Connah said.
In addition, drivers are reminded to clean off their cars before heading out. It is a state law that people must clean snow off vehicles before driving and they must turn their headlights on if their windshield wipers are on.
