Cowboys Sign Free Agent LB Zach Thomas

Posted: 9:09 pm EST February 23, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Dallas Cowboys reached an agreement with free agent linebacker Zach Thomas on a one-year contract on Saturday.

The Dallas Morning News reports Thomas' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, said the contract is worth $3 million, and includes a $1 million signing bonus, $1 million base salary and $1 million in reachable incentives.

The 34-year-old Thomas, who played only five games last season with the Miami Dolphins due to a concussion, met with Cowboys officials at the NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis prior to finalizing the deal.

The 12-year veteran reportedly had offers from the New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints since Miami cut him on February 14.

A seven-time Pro Bowl selection, Thomas spent his entire career to this point with the Dolphins, amassing 982 tackles, 19.5 sacks, 17 interceptions and four touchdown.

His 168 contests with Miami is the most by a defensive player and places him fourth on the Dolphins all-time most games played list, while his 982 stops are the most in franchise history.
