Posted: 5:35 pm EDT April 9, 2006

(Sports Network) - The New Orleans Saints have re-signed kick returner/wide receiver Michael Lewis to a three-year contract.

Lewis suffered a season-ending knee injury in just the second game of the campaign last year against the New York Giants on September 19.

The 5-foot-8, 173-pounder has played in 53 games for the Saints during his five-year career. He holds the franchise records for punt return yardage with 126 returned for 1,371 yards and one touchdown, and for kickoff return yardage with 206 returned for 4,989 yards and three touchdowns.

Lewis has been a force on the Saints' defensive special teams unit as well, having registered 43 tackles. Offensively, he has caught 28 passes for 533 yards and one touchdown.

A 2002 Pro Bowl selection, Lewis eclipsed the NFL single-season record for combined return yardage with 2,432 yards, and set franchise records with 44 punt returns for 625 yards (14.2 average) and 70 kickoff returns for 1,807 yards (25.8 average).
