Jaguars Sign CB William James

Monday, September 1, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed cornerback Williams James and waived safety Jamaal Fudge.

James, formerly known as Will Peterson, was released by the Buffalo Bills over the weekend after signing as a free agent in March. He spent the past two years with Philadelphia after playing his first five NFL seasons with the New York Giants.

The 29-year-old veteran has six interceptions, 236 tackles and 37 passes defensed in his seven-year career. He was originally selected by the Giants with a third-round pick in the 2001 NFL Draft.

Fudge played in 20 games over the past two seasons with Jacksonville.

The Jaguars also added quarterback Paul Smith to their practice squad. Smith signed as an undrafted rookie free agent this season and was among the team's final cuts on Sunday.
