Sabres Accept Briere's One-Year, $5 Million Deal

(Sports Network) - Buffalo Sabres center Daniel Briere was awarded a one-year, $5 million contract by an arbitrator, and the club announced Thursday it's accepting the decision.

Briere had his case heard on July 20 and was awarded the contract July 23.

The 28-year-old co-captain had 25 goals and 33 assists for 58 points in 48 games for Buffalo last season. He added eight goals and 11 assists in 18 playoff games.

The Sabres acquired Briere from Phoenix in 2003 in a deal that sent Chris Gratton to the Coyotes.
