Frank Burns (D) of the 72nd District earned a victory with 30 percent of the vote.

Burns campaigned against seven other Democrats throughout Somerset and Cambria counties.

Burns serves as a East Taylor Township supervisor and said he is excited to have the opportunity to bring a fresh approach to the district.

He also said the campaign was stressful because of the amount of people trying to fill the seat of retiring Rep. Tom Yewcic.

"Difficult is an understatement, and it was tough, very, very tough. But these people are how we pulled it off, I could never do it alone," Burns said.

Burns will face Republican Chris Voccio, who was uncontested.
