Palin To Visit Johnstown Saturday

Monday, October 6, 2008 – updated: 6:39 pm EDT October 6, 2008

With just weeks until the presidential election, Republican vice presidential candidate and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin will visit the area Saturday.

Officials said Palin will be at the Johnstown War Memorial. Doors open at 8 a.m. and the event starts at 10 a.m. Tickets could be available as soon as Tuesday at the Republican headquarters in Johnstown, Somerset and the joint headquarters in Ebensburg.

Palin is currently campaigning in Florida -- another key battleground state -- and is expected to be in Pittsburgh on Friday.

The visit will mark the McCain campaign's first visit to the Alleghenies. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton was the last to campaign in Johnstown in April. Sen. Barack Obama visited the area in March.

McCain already had the Republican nomination before the Pennsylvania primary in April, so he did not campaign in the state.

It was not known as of Monday afternoon what time the event will begin.
