Obama Trying To End $6-Billion Local Defense Contract

Posted: 1:39 pm EDT June 3, 2009Updated: 9:39 pm EDT June 3, 2009

The Obama administration is trying to pull the plug on a $6 billion project that involves a Johnstown defense contractor.

A spokesman at Northrop Grumman said they are disappointed in President Barack Obama's recommendation to cut funding on a project that 10 of their employees are working on.

The project involves technology that would destroy enemy missiles when launched.

Congress has not yet voted on the Department of Defense's budget and a statement from Northrop read, "The Department of Defense's annual budget process is a complex and dynamic one. We will await the completion of the fiscal year 2010 budget process."

Northrop Grumman has offices in the Johnstown Tech Park.
