HARRISBURG, Pa. -- Gov. Ed Rendell isn't saying what happened in his meeting with top state legislators to make him dramatically change his stance on budget negotiations. Just hours after threatening to veto the budget, Rendell told reporters he's cautiously optimistic about getting a budget deal done "in the next day or two." Rendell said explaining publicly what has changed wouldn't be productive to securing an agreement."If they bring me a budget where the numbers add up and there are no further significant cuts to education, economic development and health care, I would sign it," Rendell said. Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi said the meeting with Rendell was cordial but didn't bridge a gap of $200 million to $300 million in revenue predictions.
