Monarchs Snap Big Road Skid, Top Lynx

(Sports Network) - Rebekkah Brunson hit the go-ahead layup with 34.1 seconds remaining, and Sacramento finally won on the road, 74-68, over the Minnesota Lynx.

Nicole Powell scored 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds for Sacramento, which had lost six in a row overall. The Monarchs were 0-6 on the road this season and had dropped 11 consecutive away games since their last such victory on July 22, 2008 at Atlanta.

Kara Lawson notched 14 points, and Hamchetou Maiga-Ba added 11 for the Monarchs, who posted just their second win this season (2-8).

Roneeka Hodges scored 15 to pace all five Lynx starters in double figures, but Minnesota had a three-game winning streak snapped. Nicky Anosike added 12 points, eight boards and seven assists, and Charde Houston, Candice Wiggins and Kelly Miller each finished with 10 points.

Anosike's bucket gave the Lynx a 68-67 edge with 54.3 seconds remaining, but Brunson scored inside 20 seconds later and then blocked a shot from Wiggins. That led to a pair of free throws for Lawson.

Anosike's missed three-pointer essentially sealed the fate for the Lynx. Lawson and Maiga-Ba combined to make three foul shots in the waning moments.
