Tigers Reinstate Zumaya, Larish From DL Among Several Moves

(Sports Network) - The Detroit Tigers reinstated right-handed pitcher Joel Zumaya and infielder Jeff Larish from the 60-day disabled list, among several roster moves announced by the club on Friday.

Zumaya appeared in 29 games out of the bullpen in 2009 and went 3-3 with one save and a 4.94 earned run average before undergoing season-ending surgery on his right shoulder on August 21.

Larish finished the season with four home runs and seven runs batted in to go along with a .216 batting average in 32 games with the Tigers. He also spent 65 games with the club's Triple-A affiliate in Toledo and hit .265 with six homers and 26 RBI in 61 contests.

In other moves, the Tigers said outfielder Marcus Thames and catcher Matt Treanor have been removed from the big league roster and will become free agents. Detroit also purchased the contract of pitcher Jay Sborz from Toledo and outrighted infielder Michael Hollimon to the Triple-A squad.

Thames batted .252 with 13 homers and 36 RBI in 87 games last season. Over 485 games since coming to Detroit in 2004, the outfielder totaled 99 homers and 255 RBI to go along with a .245 average.

Treanor appeared in only four games with the Tigers in 2009 before having his season cut short due to right hip surgery he had done on April 30. He did not have a hit in 13 official plate appearances.

Hollimon played in 29 games with Double-A Erie a season ago, hitting .212 with 21 RBI and three homers. He underwent season-ending right shoulder surgery in July.

Sborz had three stops in the organization's minor league system in 2009. In 17 games with Single-A Lakeland, Erie and Toledo, the right-hander went 2-2 with a 2.27 ERA.
