6 Sports Hoops Hysteria: Conemaugh Twp. wins thriller, Shade's Spinelli sets milestone

Updated: Thursday, February 27 2014, 12:25 AM EST

RICHLAND TWP. -- Conemaugh Township has created a mini-dynasty in District 5 boys basketball.

Down in the 4th quarter to top-seed Northern Bedford, Ben Wilson and Jake Formica turned defense into offense twice, helping the Indians to a 57-52 win, their third consecutive District 5-AA championship.

"This one feels just as good if not better than the others," Township head coach Chuck Lesko said.

Meanwhile, Shade sophomore Emma Spinelli reached 1,000 career points only two years into her career. However, the Lady Panthers, seeking their first District 5 title since 1988, fell to Southern Fulton 76-51.

Berlin's girls beat Conemaugh Township in the District 5-A consolation to earn the district's third spot in the state playoffs.
