6 Sports Hoops Hysteria: District 6-A championships decided at buzzer

LORETTO -- Macy Adams' three-pointer at the buzzer propelled Bishop Guilfoyle (19-5) to its 8th consecutive District 6-A title over Portage (23-2) 57-55.  Adams, only a freshmen, rang up the triple right in front of the Marauder bench sending head coach Mark Moschella into Jimmy V mode.

BG led by as many as seven in the third quarter, but the Mustangs rallied with a 16-5 run in the fourth to take a four point lead. Emily Chobany, who mustered the bulk of the scoring with Olivia McCabe on the bench for most of the second half with foul trouble, hit big shot after big shot to give the Mustangs the advantage.

After Lexi Wozniak missed the front end of a one-and-one, BG set up for the final shot with 14 seconds remaining.  With the play breaking down, Adams took control as she dribbled right and knocked down the step back three at the horn.

An absolute classic in the girls showdown was followed by a thriller between two local powers in boys 6-A.  Bishop Carroll (25-0) kept their perfect season afloat after surviving another scare from Bishop Guilfoyle (19-6) 51-48.

Carroll lead by 8 at the break and used a huge run in the third led by star guard Brandon Martinazzi to build the Husky lead to as many as 14.  Guilfoyle sparked it's own comeback fueled by hot shooting from CJ Fulare and Damon Rickens.

The Marauders got within two with only two minutes left and had a chance to tie at the buzzer, but Carroll was able to hang on and win it's first district crown since 2011.
