Former Pitt Stars Headed to Texas: Savage to Houston, Street to Dallas

It had been speculated on for months.  What quarterback would Bill O'Brien and the texans draft?  It started with Johnny Manziel at number one and most recently rumored talks of a trade to get New England's Ryan Mallet.  But the Texans took Clowney at number one, passed on Derek Carr and left things wide open.

Then saturday in an ironic twist, atleast in the eyes of the Penn State faithful, the Texans selected Pittsburgh quarterback Tom Savage in the 4th round with the 135th pick.  Savage regarded by many as having the strongest arm in the draft had quickly risen up draft boards and for O'Brien it was all about fit.

O'Brien told ESPN's Suzy Kolber that the Texans waited on a quarterback because they were looking to get the best fit at all positions.  He said Savage was an honest kid who had a good arm, was accurate and smart.  As for a starting job, O'Brien said the best teams in this league have the most competition and Savage would have to compete with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Case Keenum.

Savage's former target Devin Street was selected in the 5th round 146th overall by the Dallas Cowboys.
