Steelers trim to 53, Stephens-Howling Stays, Dwyer Cut

Updated: Sunday, September 1 2013, 01:56 AM EDT

The Steelers got a key part back Saturday, while making their cuts.

Johnstown native LaRod Stephens-Howling makes the 53-man roster, as well as former Penn State wide receiver Derek Moye.

They activated tight end Heath Miller from the physically unable to perform list, meaning he passed his physical and is eligible to begin practicing. Millers been on the shelf since tearing his ACL last year, and he could still miss some time. But it wasnt going to be worth the six-week wait of putting him on reserve/PUP.

The Steelers also released running back Jonathan Dwyer and punter Brian Moorman, and waived running back Alvester Alexander, defensive linemen Alameda Taamu and Brian Arnfelt, linebackers Alan Baxter, Terence Garvin, Marshall McFadden and Brian Rolle, wide receivers Justin Brown, Reggie Dunn and Kashif Moore, offensive linemen Mike Golic, Chris Hubbard, Joe Long and Joe Madsen, tight ends Jamie McCoy and Nathan Overbay, and defensive backs Terry Hawthorne, Devin Smith, Ross Ventrone and Josh Victorian.

Cutting Dwyer should be a sign that rookie running back LeVeon Bells injury wont keep him out too long, or that they saw something in recent trade acquisition Felix Jones.
