Utility worker credited with alerting family to Blair Co. fire

Water authority worker told family building was on fire

By Marc Stempka

ALTOONA, Pa. --  Firefighters in Blair County worked to put out flames in an Altoona apartment building Tuesday afternoon.

Blair County emergency dispatch said the fire was reported just before 12:30 p.m. in an apartment building along the 2700 block of Broad Avenue.

Officials at the scene said the fire was contained to a single apartment. There were three people, a man and two young children, who lived inside the unit. They were not home at the time of the fire.

The unit that caught fire was the only occupied apartment in the building and all others were vacant, officials said.

The Altoona fire department was investigating the cause of the blaze and city code officials were also at the scene.
