Bomb threat evacuates courthouse, neighborhood

By: WJAC Web Staff

A bomb threat at the Blair County Courthouse prompted an evacuation overnight.

The incident started Wednesday night when two threats were sent in to a local television station.

The courthouse and surrounding neighborhood were evacuated while Penn States bomb squad searched the building. Blair Countys new bomb-detection dog made two sweeps of the building and honed in on a box used to hold paper, which was found in the basement of the courthouse.

Hollidaysburg Police Chief Jeff Ketner said, They did identify a substance in the basement purchasing room as something from the chlorine family. Thats what the dog hit on; what he is supposed to hit on. The bomb squad checked it (and) found out it was not anything close to a bomb.

The courthouse is open as usual today, but as of Thursday morning there was still no word on who may have sent the threats in.

Anyone with information is asked to call police.
