Truck crash closes Cambria County roadway

One person transported to hospital

By Marc Stempka

PORTAGE TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- A roadway in Cambria County was reopened after crews completed cleanup after a tri-axle truck overturned, trapping the driver in the wreckage and spilling the trucks contents across the road and into a nearby yard.

Officials said the truck crashed at about 6 a.m. Wednesday on the 1100 block of Munster Road (Route 164) in Portage Township.

The driver was trapped in the wreckage and had to removed from it by firefighters, an official with the Portage Fire Company said. The driver was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

No other injuries or vehicles were involved in the crash, officials said. The roadway was closed for almost five hours as crews worked to upright the truck and clean up spilled coal.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation by state police at Ebensburg, officials said.
