Police make second arrest in West End shooting
There are new details on a shooting earlier this week in Johnstown's West End. Police have arrested a second person they say is responsible for hiding the gun that was used.
That shooting happened on Wednesday when investigators said Lemmel Myers shot another man over a $20 debt outside of an apartment building along Fairfield Avenue. The victim was driven to the Giant Eagle parking lot down the street where police found him.
Myers is still in jail on $150,000 bond but now there's another man joining him.
When Myers was arrested shortly after the shooting Wednesday police said the weapon he used was no where to be found. But they said witnesses told them a semi-automatic hand gun was passed off to another man, named Leon.
"Apparently instructions were passed along to him to get the gun out of the area and he did that," said Johnstown Police Captain Andrew Frear.
After following up on leads police said they were able to track down a man who matched the description they were looking for. But that man said his name was Torrence Meadows and he had a North Carolina license to prove it.
"He kind of looked similar to him but not really like him and we advised him we were going to have him fingerprinted and that would give his I.D. and show who he is," said Frear. "He still didn't give us his real name."
But police said he came clean when they took him for fingerprinting. His real identity was Leon Currence. His address is listed as homeless but police said they arrested him at the apartment building where the shooting happened.
"We found out he was a felon in addition to that and felons are not allowed to possess a firearm," said Frear. "He's charged with that additionally."
Police said they also found he was wanted for a burglary in North Carolina and had several parole violations in Harrisburg, Pa.
"At this time we do not have a weapon," said Frear. "We are still continuing to look for it."
Officials said the victim, Leslie Shetrompf, was still recovering at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center Friday.
