Man sentenced for role in crash that killed son

CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. --

A Johnstown man was sentenced to prison for his teenage son's homicide-by-vehicle death.

Brian Roles Sr. was convicted in August of homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence.

Investigators said Roles was drunk and under the influence of drugs when he flipped his truck last April. His 16-year-old son, Brian Roles Jr., was pronounced dead at the scene.

On Wednesday, Roles begged the court for mercy during his sentencing, telling the judge he would trade places with his son if he could.

But the judge said that Roles was not honest or sincere, saying Roles compelled and contrived his nephew to lie during trial to exonerate him. For that, the judge called Roles a "coward' "coward" and said he would not cut him any slack.

Roles was sentenced to 8 1/2 eight and a half years to 17 years in state prison.
