Park Rangers would respond in event of school shooting

by Justin Platek

FLINTON, Pa. -- Park rangers are being trained to respond to emergency situations at a Cambria County high school because of its rural location.

The rangers patrol Prince Gallitzin State Park and are the closest law enforcement officials to Glendale High School in Flinton.

"Rangers are the jack of all trades," said Richard Mohney, a ranger supervisor who participated in the training.

"They're armed and they can respond relatively quickly," said Glendale Superintendent Arnie Nadonley.

Rangers and officers with the Pennsylvania Game Commission joined members of the Cambria County SERT team for training on Friday.

Student actors, covered in fake blood from pretend wounds, played victims as authorities canvassed the school, looking for a shooter.

"It's very eye-opening," Mohney said, "we learned a lot in such a short period of time."

Officials said people shouldn't be concerned that not much surrounds the school. They said officials are well-prepared and that there are safety precautions in place that are not discussed in public.
