Blacklick Valley students charged with assaulting teens

By: WJAC Web Staff

An 18-year-old Blacklick Valley High School student is one of two teens facing charges related to an incident at the high school Friday night.

Drew Heming, 18, is facing assault and witness intimidation charges.

Nanty Glo police said their investigation is ongoing, but they believe that a 17-year-old assaulted two 13-year-old boys at the school. Heming, who police said is a friend of the 17-year-old, allegedly threatened the younger teens if they talked about it.

Police credit another Blacklick student for reporting the incident.

"One of the most difficult things for a high school kid to do is to come forward and do the right thing and say, 'Hey what's going on is wrong and it has to stop.' This kid did it," said Michael Oyaski of the Nanty Glo Police Department.

Police said the school has notified parents and is cooperating in the investigation. It was not known as of Thursday what charges the 17-year-old will face.
